Tips on Hoop Taping

When mixing cloth and vinyl tapes, apply the cloth first because it is more “stretchy.

Apply metallic tape first when using multiple types of tape because it is the most easy to apply with exact spacing since it does not stretch.

Metallic tape needs cloth or vinyl hoop tape applied to its edges, as it tends to curl over time.

Basic “spiral” tape patterns work best because they fit most easily around the edge of a circular shape.

Spiral patterns can be applied going at opposite directions to create a crosshatch or “x” pattern.

Cloth (gaffers) tape is the best tape to use for the base taping layer (applied first) because it gives your hoop some “grip” when going around your body.

Apply hoop tape by sitting in the middle of the hoop (the hoop surrounding you) so you can easily “advance” the taping application as you apply it.

Use a small piece of vinyl tape to prevent paper-backed tapes from unwinding while they are being stored.
